M10 - Hollow Grind vs Full Flat?

Mar 18, 2015 · IMHO(yes, I know what that is worth), a convex grind is the optimum for a combat knife. If you are relying on a blade for SD, then it is a combat knife. A thousand years of Japanese sword making freaking geniuses had to have something on the ball. Next would be a chisel grind. Full flat grind makes for a very sharp and fairly durable blade though.

Hollow grinding theory | BladeForums

Apr 29, 2009 · The hollow grinding done first is not a necessity. It just removes the majority of material, making it 10 times easier, with much less heat when doing the flats, than if I were to start without the hollow grinding. Making any sense ? Here's a few pics of tapered tangs, from the side and from the top.

Hollow Grinds: Why are they widely disliked? - Spyderco Forums

Jul 12, 2007 · Hollow grinds were very popular amongst mass produced knives recently, and now that a good flat grind can be produced, it is a welcome change. (of course this is all theory). I prefer flat over hollow, but that won't stop me from buying a blade I like. The only grind I truly hate is the low saber grind that's on the D4/E4.

Hollow Grinding - Shave Library

Finish grinding is best done at 1/2 that speed or even less ( less is better) such as 400 sfpm. larger drive wheels may not be best for hollowing. For example, a 10" drive wheel is great for profiling, but cannot really be used for hollow grinding or finish grinding. The steel simply gets hot so very fast. contributions [edit | edit source]

Hollow grinding on blades = shorter life? | ChefTalk
